BJP General Secretary expressed full confidence that the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 will be passed in the Rajya Sabha.
When asked about the passing of the Bill in the Rajya Sabha, Ram Madhav said: “I cannot say anything with certainty now since we don’t have the majority in the Rajya Sabha, but I don’t think anyone will oppose this Bill because the Bill is of national importance.”
The BJP Gerneral Secretary’s statement shows the adamant approach of the BJP in regards to passage of the Bill. Leaders of the resistance against the Bill including peasant leader
Akhil Gogoi have warned that the BJP will pass the Bill at all costs and there are chances that the issue will be raised again at the interim Budget Session on January 31. In fact, it I believed that the BJP is so desperate to pass the Bill that they are willing to get it passed at a joint Parliamentary session.
It is evident that the voices of the indigenous people of the Northeast have fallen on deaf ears. Ram Madhav, who is one of the seniormost BJP leaders of the country, has alleged that the protests against the Bill are staged. He has stated that some of the protests are staged keeping a political power grab in mind by creating a situation of chaos and unrest in the state.
