Ram Sena Man Arrested For Forcing Muslims to Chant 'Jai Shri Ram'

Guwahati, June 22, 2019:

The prime accused behind the case when some Muslim youths were forced to chant 'Jai Shri Ram', has been arrested in Guwahati city of Assam on Friday. The prime accused in the case is right-wing group Sri Ram Sena's founder Yogi Debojit Deka. The accused has been sent for 14 days judicial remand.

The self proclaimed 'Hindu saviour' was arrested on Friday from Guwahati city of Assam. Yogi, who is alleged to be the perpetrator behind forcing Muslim youths in Barpeta, Assam, to chant 'Jai Sri Ram' (glory be to Lord Ram), originally hails from Jalukbari area in Guwahati city.

The incident became known after a video of the attack went viral on social media platforms after the attackers themselves shot the video and uploaded it online and people were appalled to see that the Muslim youths were being attacked and forced to chant slogans.

Two FIRs were filed against the organisation by the All Assam Minority Students’ Union and the North-East Minorities Students’ Union.

The FIRs alleged that a group of men claiming to be members of the right-wing group stopped an autorickshaw, attacked the people travelling on the autorickshaw, and were made to shout slogans like ‘Jai Shri Ram’, ‘Pakistan Murdabad’ and ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’.

Barpeta Additional Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Kakati has said the miscreants have all been identified and said that they will all be arrested while addressing a presser on June 21st, 2019.
