Reang Community of Assam Demands ST Status, Threatens 'Democratic Protest'

Silchar, October 2, 2019:

The United Democratic Liberation Front of Barak Valley (UDLF-B) had made a set of demands to the Government for the protection and furtherance of the rights of the Reang community in the State of Assam.

The organization has demanded a Reang Arts Development Council, the implementation of traditional forest dwellers right act 2006 for the Reangs of Assam, as well as ST status for the Reangs dwelling in the State of Assam.

A member of the organization stated, "We would like to know about the positive response from the State Government, and failure to do so will compel our people to launch democratic protests."
