Guwahati, August 5, 2019:

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) Chief Akhil Gogoi on Monday slammed the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government for revoking the Article 370 and 35A which provided special constitutional safeguards to the people of Kashmir.

Addressing the media here today, the KMSS Chief said that the Government's decision is anti-democratic and autocratic and this will weaken the federal structure of India.

"The people of Northeast India cannot support such arbitrary, undemocratic, and anti-federal policies of the Indian Government" he said.

He further warned that the Government will soon look the scrap the Article 371A to 371G, which give special constitutional safeguards to the people of Northeast India.

Gogoi also warned that the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill is on the horizon. "We do not know when crisis will fall upon us", said the KMSS.

Earlier, in an announcement with massive repercussions for Jammu and Kashmir, Home Minister Amit Shah has announced in Rajya Sabha that the government has decided to repeal Article 370 of the Constitution which grants special status to J&K. The government has also decided to bifurcate the state into two Union territories – Jammu and Kashmir, which will have a legislature, and Ladakh, which will be without a legislature.
