Bishwanath Chariali victim Shaukat Ali closer to justice as main accused in assault case arrested

Guwahati, April 19, 2019:

Main accused, Trinayan Hazarika, has been arrested in relation to the assault of a Muslim man named Shaukat Ali. Ali, a resident of Bishwanath Chariali in Assam's Sonitpur district was roughed up by thugs and forced to eat pork after it was alleged that he was selling beef at his restaurant.

Now, shocking revelations are being made as the case is getting older. Trinayan Hazarika, one of the prime accused in the case, is allegedly affiliated with the NSUI. Two other accused, Ranjan Bora and Hemanta Das, were also arrested on Thursday.

The incident was captured on live video and went viral on social media, drawing outrage from all quarters due to its communal nature.

Police subsequently started a search for the perpetrators and so far, ten people have been arrested, police confirmed. Ten persons were earlier arrested in relation to the case.

Ten accused who were earlier arrested are: Dipen Barua, Dipak Koal, Subhal Koal, Durgeswar Bora, Indu Kalpa Bora, Damudor Saikia, Ankur Gogoi, Ram Prasad Das, Gopal Saikia, and Trinayan Hazarika.
