SILCHAR: In a sensational development that has been reported ahead of the polls in Assam, snti-social elements pelted stones at the house of an election agent of former deputy speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Dilip Kumar Paul in Silchar.

On Sunday evening, a gang of miscreants converged in front of advocate Babu Singh's residence in Silchar and proceeded to pelt stones.

This shocking incident takes place against the backdrop of Paul filing his nomination as an Independent candidate. After being denied the ticket for the ensuing polls in the state, Paul had tendered his resignation from the ruling BJP.

It needs mention here that Dwaipayan Chakraborty has been chosen in his stead to represent the saffron party in the Constituency.

Taking to social media after the alleged attack, Paul wrote, “Is Silchar’s reign of terror is coming back again? Is the healthy democratic environment going to be corrupted? Because some miscreants attacked the house of my election agent Advocate Babu Singh this evening.”

Informing that only women of the household were present during the 'attack', he added that the house was heavily hailed from seven to a half in the night.

“They are trying to create an environment of panic. I have left the burden of justice on the conscious, gentle, cultured citizens of Silchar,” he added.
