GUWAHATI: Nijara Devi, the resident doctor of 3-time former Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi, recalls him as a "simple and disciplined man."

In an exclusive interaction with Inside Northeast, the doctor says that the former CM always advised her to take care of herself and "consume vitamin D pills." Gogoi, she told us, was very strict about these things.

"In the morning, he used to go for walking, and then yoga. He used to have herbal medicines before his morning breakfast -- such as papaya. In spite of all his diseases, he was living a healthy good life," he told us.

Recalling some special moments with the deceased ex Chief Minister, she says, "Everyday, we made new memories with him. What always stood out was his simplicity. Even during his stay at the ICU, he was really concerned. I was called by him on Wednesday afternoon -- the day hios health deteriorated -- and enquired about his reports. I told him that doctors had advised him to use the NIV machine."

Stating that the former Chief Minister was fond of trying different cuisines -- be it Italian, Continental or Chinese -- Devi revealed that he always had a special fondness for Assamese ethnic cuisines. "He always used to say that Assamese food is balanced."

The resident doctor of the former CM adds that he did not have any airs despite holding such a high post and was always and family-like. "In spite of his position, he always made me feel like a family member. He always used to enquire about my family members. He would also often advise me to undergo vitamin tests."

Meawhile, the remains of Gogoi have now reached Assam Congress HQ Rajiv Bhawan, where he is being kept so that Congress members can pay their last respects to the departed leader.
