GUWAHATI: Welcoming the release of Assam MLA and activist Akhil Gogoi, renowned Social Activist Medha Patkar on Thursday extended her gratitude towards the judiciary for making the right decision.
"It's a matter of great happiness that Akhil Gogoi is finally under the open sky. I extend my gratitude to the the judicial system for acquitting him from all the 'false' charges", said Patkar in a video.
The social activist stressed that keeping the KMSS leader behind bars on 'false charges' for such a long period was a sheer act of injustice.

Patkar anticipated that he will address the issues of the people of his constituency who made him victorious in the assembly polls this year
With KMSS on one side and Raijor Dol on the other, Akhil Gogoi will be able to make his way ahead towards his goal, added Patkar.
Patkar mentioned how Gogoi voiced for the economically backward population of the urban areas including Guwahati.
"By gathering support of men, women and even the youth, Gogoi displayed the strength to the government that the public of Assam hold", she further added.
She also mentioned about Gogoi always voicing against corruption and other socially relevant issues.
Extending her wishes to Gogoi, Patkar said, "We will look forward to the journey of Akhil Gogoi now".
A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court has discharged Gogoi on Thursday from the remaining Chandmari Police Station case after one and a half years of being in jail.
Akhil Gogoi was arrested in December 2019 from Jorhat under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, (UAPA) for his alleged role in violent anti-CAA protests and probable nexus with the Maoists based on two cases filed in Chabua and Chandmari Police Stations.
