Leader of Opposition, Debabrata Saikia on Wednesday took a jibe a CM Sarbananda Sonowal led government in Assam over its failure to fulfill the promises it made. He also rebuked the state Government in view of Assam topping the women related crimes list.
The Congress leader, taking a dig at the Narendra Modi-led government's 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' initiative, lambasted the Sonowal Government as recent National Crime Report said that Assam has topped in 'women related crimes' in the country.

He added that as per the national assessment, 27 gang rapes were reported, while 9,782 domestic violence cases and 5,554 cases of kidnapping of women were reported.
Addressing the media, Debabrata Saikia also rebuked the Sonowal Government for failure to implement its schemes. He said, "An organization named 'Akata Parishad' approached the High Court in 2017 regarding the employment of 4,000 families. This was approached as per a special scheme of the Chief Minister in 2015. The government has failed to implement the earlier schemes, whereas new schemes are being introduced."
Although a reminder was given out to in February 2018, no actions were taken against it, he added.
"The state of Assam is yet to receive a sum of 14,000 crore that was announced by the Centre," he added.
Moreover, the Congress leader also mentioned that the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana did not receive receive their second installments. Also, the beneficiaries of MANREGA are yet to receive their wages.
Saikia added that crores of NRL Government money has been spent in the development of the NRL. But after privatization, the investment will move to the private companies.
He urged the concerned authorities of the government and public to oppose it.

Claiming the allegations of coal syndicate in Margherita to be true, Saikia further informed that the Coal India Ltd. transports coal only through railway, but one can see coal-laden trucks carrying tonnes of coal along the highways of Margherita.
Finally, Saikia also urged the government to upgrade the health department and increase the number of beds in the health centers.
