The Dimasa Students Union (DSU), All Dimasa Students Union (ADSU) and Dimasa Mothers Association (DMA) on May 20, 2020, demanded CBI inquiry into the Sontosh Hojai kidnap and murder case.

Staging a sit-in demonstration in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, the organisations demanded the arrest of the then DSP Surya Kanta Morang and those who were involved in the kidnap and brutal murder of the Dimasa leader. They also demanded compensation to the family of Hojai.

Besides, talking about the transfer of Morang, Uttam Langthasa, president of ADSU, said, “His transfer is not the solution. Such heinous incidents took place in the district earlier also. But, no justice was delivered.” He further said that the organizations would be compelled to intensify its movement if no result is witnessed soon.

On May 14, demanding immediate arrest of the DSP, the Halali Progressive Welfare Society (HPWS), Haflong, called for a 36-hour shut down in Dima Hasao.

It may be mentioned that Hojai, a militant-turned contractor, was kidnapped from his house by a group of unidentified miscreants at Gamadi Hower under Harangajao police station on April 24 last. The miscreants came in a Bolero car (without number plate) defying the nationwide lockdown enforced to prevent the coronavirus. His body was recovered on April 30 along NH 27 (around 100km from his home) at Lailing reserve forest under Langting police station in the district.
