"Spectacular victory": Himanta Biswa celebrates BJP victories in Manipur by-polls

IMPHAL: The BJP has performed strongly in the Manipur by-polls, claiming victory in 4 out of the 5 Seats that are up for grabs. Independent candidate Antas Khan has won from the Lilong Assembly Constituency, becoming the only non-BJP candidate to secure a victory in the polls that were held on the 7th of this month.

"Manipur reaffirms faith in PM Sri Narendra Modi spectacular victory for BJP 4 Manipur as we win 4 out of 5 seats at #bypolls. Congratulations to all victorious friends. Kudos to CM Sri N Biren Singh whose leadership continues to inspire," Assam Minister and Northeast Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote in a tweet. Sarma was earlier sent on a Manipur visit to campaign for by-elections to the four legislative assembly constituencies in the state.

By-polls were held in five Assembly constituencies — Lilong, Wangjing Tentha, and Saitu, in the state — on November 7.

This year, the elections in Manipur have been held with COVID-19 safety measures in place. According to reports, optional postal ballot facility has been provided for electors above 80 years of age, COVID-19 patients and voters quarantined at different centres.
