The boys of the North East United Football Club (NEUFC) have done it again! In an absolutely thrilling encounter played between the NEUFC and the boys from Bengaluru FC underneath the floodlights in Guwahati, the Highlanders have pulled off a miracle of sorts as Juan Cruz Mascia converted a penalty in the dying moments (90+5’) to script a memorable victory. With this win in the first leg of the ISL semifinal, the boys have put one foot closer to the final.
Earlier in the game, Radeem Tlang had put the Highlanders ahead within 20 minutes of the opening of the game, but Bengaluru FC’s Xisco Hernandez found an equalizer in the 82nd minute. The second leg of the semifinal will be played on March 11 at Bengaluru. The other semifinals are to be held between Mumbai FC and Goa FC on March 9 and March 12. The final will be held on March 17. It is to be mentioned that this is the first time that the NEUFC team has qualified for the ISL playoffs.
