The stage is all set for unfurling of the national tricolour from the country’s third highest flagpole here on Wednesday.
Guwahati Smart City Ltd, in association with Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority, PMG, Tata Engineering Service and Bajaj Electricals, has embarked upon “Mission Uphill” to hoist the national flag atop a 310-feet mast made of galvanised steel on Sarania hills near Gandhi Mandap on the occasion of the country’s 72nd Independence Day.
With a flag size of 120' X 80', the proposed flagpole is expected to serve as an additional landmark and a tourist spot for people visiting Guwahati.
The flag will flutter day and night throughout the year and will be illuminated at night with suitable lighting arrangement.
The entire project is costing the State government Rs 2.58 crore and the flag will be visible from almost all over Guwahati.
The country’s highest flagpole is located at Attari in Punjab, near the Indo-Pakistan border, which was built at a cost of Rs 3.50 crore and inaugurated in 2017.
