Students’ Federation of India Condemns Attack on JNU, Demands Ban on ABVP

Guwahati, January 6, 2020:

Protests condemning the attack on Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Sunday night were seen across the country. The Assam arm of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) also vehemently criticized the government for its failure to protect students and demanded that the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) be banned for unleashing terror on innocent students.

University students gathered in Guwahati and staged a “Dhikkar Rally” on Monday. They also gathered at Nehru Park in the evening to voice against the violence at JNU carried out allegedly by ABVP, Bajrang Dal and RSS-backed goons.

“Modi should be ashamed of what has been happening in the country. The other day students of Jamia and Aligarh Muslim University were attacked. Yesterday the students of JNU were attacked. What is left now?” questioned a student.

The SFI also staged a demonstration in Jorhat condemning the brutal assault carried out by masked goons. It may be mentioned here that Assam boy Mrinal Borah who was among the students beaten up in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) violence has alleged that the attack was a planned one and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Bajrang Dal, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Delhi Police are all culpable.

“We were around 1500-2000 and considering our safety, we started walking away from the spot. But they soon started throwing stones at us. Some 100-200 people approached us and started beating us up. We hid in the jungle till 10 pm. We were scared. We fled the situation and came back to Assam. I don’t want to die like Najeeb Ahmed. I don’t want my parents to search for me for the rest of their lives,” said Borah.
