Guwahati, January 17, 2019:

The move to stop influx of illegal immigrants took a major boost on Thursday as at least 20 Bangladeshi immigrants were detained by Police in Pengeri area under Doom Dooma.

The suspected immigrants, who did not possess any valid citizenship documents, were apprehended by locals when they were clueless and roaming around the area.

After interrogating the suspected Bangladeshis and unable to find any valid proof of their Indian citizenship, the locals handed over the immigrants to the police.

Recently, 30 suspected Bangladeshis immigrants were detained in Jorhat district’s Nakachari area while 25 more suspected Bangladeshis were arrested by the police in Tinsukia.
