At a time when the entire state of Assam is shivering due to the outbreak of the deadly vector-borne disease, another deadly disease has struck the State. 'Swine Flu' has reared its ugly head once again, and a person said to be suffering from the deadly disease breathed his last at an Assam hospital on Wednesday.
A 75-year-old-shopkeeper hailing from Tamulpur in Baksa district called Bhagawan Prasad died on Wednesday after being afflicted with the deadly disease, reports The Deccan Herald.
Prasad was initially admitted in a hospital in Rangia, but had to be taken to Narayana Super speciality Hospital after his condition became serious.
The patient was reportedly was suffering from high fever and was found to have a septic shock with left ventricular failure, and later died of a cardiac arrest.
This is the first case of death caused due to Swine Flu recorded in Assam this year.
For the uninitiated, Swine flu was first recognised in the 1919 pandemic and still circulates as a seasonal flu virus. Swine flu is caused by the H1N1 virus strain, which started in pigs.
