JORHAT: Even as Tarun Gogoi battled for his life in Guwahati's Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), hundreds of kilometres away, in Gogoi's Home Constituency of Titabor, people belonging to all faiths prayed for the well-being of the veteran Congress leader.

After news broke that Gogoi had been hospitalized and put on intubation and ventilator, a joint 'duaa' (prayer) was held in the Titabor Burha Masjid.

People separated by faiths but connected by the desire to see their MLA get back to his fittest came together and prayed for his health and well-being.

Sources revealed to Inside Northeast that different religious scriptures -- including the Namaz and the Holy Bible -- were read -- and Naam, that great unifier of the Assamese peoples, was also performed. Video footage of the duaa shows people in all hues and colours, from all walks of life, praying together for the 86-year-old leader's recovery.

Monks, Mullahs, and Priests from Gogoi's Home Constituency sat down side by side in a great show of solidarity that, quite frankly, shows that Gogoi's popularity endures even though he might no longer be Chief Minister -- a post that he held for 15 years.

Three-time former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s health condition remains “critical”. He was yesterday put under mechanical ventilation after complaining of breathing problems. The veteran has been battling post-Covid health complications for a month now. Earlier today, there were some positive signs like “spontaneous eye opening”, the GMCH superintendent Abhijit Sarma said today.

Gogoi had tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease on August 25 and was admitted to the GMCH for two months. Although he tested 'negative' for the virus, the veteran has been in and out of the hospital as he suffers from post-COVID complications.
