TET Teachers' Condemn BJP Govt for Not Regularizing Jobs Despite Pre-Poll Promise

Guwahati, June 29, 2019:
Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) teachers of Assam staged a massive protest in the Veterinary field of Khanapara in Guwahati city against the Assam State administration to fulfill their demands.
Over 20 thousand teachers gathered at the Veterinary field.
Their main demand is the regularization of their jobs and the teachers have collectively condemned the Assam Government and Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharjee for not addressing their issue.
Over 41,000 teachers have been working on a contractual basis in different parts of Assam after passing their qualification examinations.

Speaking to Inside Northeast, the protesting teachers said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the time of Lok Sabha election 2019 campaign published their vision document in which it was stated that in Page no. 22 'service of the contractual TET teachers will be regularized'. Moreover, the document had stated that 'those ST/SC students who have passed the TET examination will be provided jobs.”
This outraged the teachers as no promises made by the government have been fulfilled so far. Rather, the education minister has allegedly compared their job term to that of a driver’s driving licence.
The protesting teachers chanted slogans like “We have only one demand. We demand unconditional regularization of our jobs. All 41,000 of us have to be given unconditional regularization.”
The protesting teachers even included four-months-old pregnant ladies who came out too.
