DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh Police and government railway police in a joint operation seized three diesel tankers and detained the drivers in connection with alleged involvement in theft of oil and selling the same midway while carrying the same from Digboi.
The arrested trio is identified as K Rabi Rao, Arbind Rai and Ravi Chetri. They were arrested in Banipur Railway Station today.
The team has also recovered Rs 53,800 in cash from the drivers of the tankers bearing registration numbers AS06 AC 1842, AS04 AC 1350 and AS11 B 0577.

Police said, five diesel filled tankers were supposed to reach Banipur station today. But, two tankers were yet to reach the station.
The police and GRPF registered a case and started the investigation.
According to information with the police, a racket has been active in stealing the diesel and selling it midway while being transported from Digboi to Banipur Railway Station. The racket is involved in selling the diesel meant to be delivered to Railways.
Each tanker can carry 12,000 litre of diesel. But, a huge quantity of the fuel is found short while checking.
