Tiwa Autonomous Council election to be held tomorrow; Here are all the details

SONAPUR: After the conclusion of the high-voltage polls in the Bodoland Territorial Council, the election to the Tiwa Autonomous Council (TAC) in middle Assam will take place on Thursday. A total of 36 constituencies of the TAC will go to poll in parts of Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai and Kamrup (Metro) districts to decide the fate of as many as 124 candidates. A total of 3,08,409 electors will decide the fate of these candidates. If necessary, repoll will be held on December 18.

Polling will take place in the Tiwa-dominated areas in Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai and Kamrup (Metro) districts.

Meanwhile, Alok Kumar, the head of the Assam Election Commission has informed that they will strictly follow the guidelines of the Election Commission of India to conduct the polls. The guidelines were also followed during the elections in the BTC.

After forming the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) with the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) and Gana Suraksha Party (GSP), the BJP is aiming at a clean sweep.

Campaigning for the election is in full flow and heavyweight BJP leaders, such as Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and MLA Angoorlata Deka have been seen campaigning for the saffron party in the polls.

Yesterday, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, campaigning in Sonapur, lambasted the Congress party for its "corruption", while at the same time highlighting the developmental schemes of his own party, the BJP.

Meanwhile, the Government of Assam has declared December 17, 2020 as paid holiday in all factories, plantations (including tea plantations), shops and commercial establishments, industries, workshops, banking institutions etc. to enable the workers/employees to cast their votes within the jurisdiction of Tiwa Autonomous Council Area Districts on account of the election to the General Council of Tiwa Autonomous Council.
