Guwahati (Assam), Aug 6 2018:

Thousands of All Koch Rajbongshi Sanmelani activists have started a 12-hour rail blockade at Chautara railway station in Kokrajhar district since 6 am on Monday in support of their demands for a separate Kamatapur State and Scheduled Tribe status for the Koch Rajbongshi community.

Several long-distance trains have been affected due to the blockade even as the Kokrajhar district administration officials are trying to convince the agitators to lift off their blockade programme till the filing of this report.

Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express (12423) has been diverted via Fakiragram, Golokganj and New Coochbehar.

Leaders of the organisation have accused the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre of not fulfilling the long-standing demand of the community to grant them ST status, besides creating a separate ST status.

They also threatened to intensify their stir, if the Centre did not take any step to meet their demands.
