Simmering tension was brewing at parts of Gandacherra, a remote sub-division located in the Dhalai district, Tripura after an active IPFT worker—identified as Waris Ali was murdered by some unknown miscreants. Waris was spotted stabbed and his throat slashed at his own residence. Such an attack on a political activist ahead of the ADC elections raised many eyebrows and evoked the attention of everyone.

According to sources, Waris Ali (35), a resident of Narayan our ADC village under Gandacherra police station. On Thursday late night, someone known to Ali knocked his doors for some discussion. Ali welcomed him home and was discussing something with him. But, all of a sudden a group miscreants taking advantage of the situation barged into his room and attacked Ali.

The miscreants stabbed him, his throat was slashed by some edged weapon. At the same time, the person who was familiar with Ali and showed up for some important talk absconded. It was Ali's wife Salema Bibi who attempted to raise the alarm and faced violent treatment from the intruders.

Somehow, Bibi escaped and reached the house of Ali's elder brother but before telling anything she collapsed. Ali's elder brother spotted his brother injured after he rushed to his home following Salema's bad conditions.

On knowing, a big contingent of police team headed by Superintendent of Police Dhalai district, Tripura Kishore Debbarma. He was first taken to Gandacherra hospital but following his condition, the on-duty doctors referred him to the GBP hospital and died on the way.

The IPFT party demanded strict action against the people who were involved in this. A team of police along with dog squad combed the area on Friday to trace evidences. Ali's wife Salema Bibi told police that she might not know their name but could identify their faces.

It is pertinent to mention here that since the last Assembly elections, his house was attacked not less than 5 times. A number of times, he along with his family stayed at the residence of his in-laws for a long period after the polls. However, ruled out any political links of the incident and assured that soon the perpetrators would be behind the bars.

“We have already begin tracking cell phone records to trace out as to who first entered his house on that day,” SP Kishore Debbarma added.
