A pregnant woman admitted to the Bisalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital, Tripura was tested positive for the COVID-19 prompting the hospital authorities to suspend all its services temporarily. The admitted patients were released immediately in order to prevent the further spread of the disease in the hospital and all the health professionals who came in close contact with the patient were sent to quarantine. According to sources, samples of as many as 10 doctors and nurses were sent for testing who have had come in contact with the patient.
Putting further light on the issue, SDMO (Sub-divisional Medical Officer) JM Das said, “According to the information I have gathered from the hospital, a patient in intensive labor pain hailing from Boxanagar, Tripura has been admitted to the hospital on July 1 last. After primary treatment, she has been referred to GBP hospital following her condition. And, on July 03 last, she has tested positive to the COVID-19. She has undergone the test at GBP hospital, Tripura”.

Describing the measures taken in the aftermath, he said, “As soon as the news reached us, we had released all the patients and identified those who might have come in contact with the woman. The doctors and other health professionals were also isolated for sample collection. The results of the already collected samples were yet to be declared and only after that any further decision on resuming the services could have been taken”.
He also informed this correspondent that the entire ward in which she was admitted to had been sanitized. “As per the guidelines, it takes minimum 48 hours to complete the sanitization process. We are likely to begin our services if the crucial hours pass”.
