Guwahati (Assam), September 25, 2018:

Two Assam MLAs have petitioned Assembly speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami asking for facilities such as a swimming pool and a gym at the colony of the lawmakers.

Aminul Islam of opposition All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) said, “We have appealed to the speaker to construct a swimming pool within the campus of the MLA hostel”.

His colleague Abdur Rahim Ajmal, also of AIUDF, said, “We want the gym and swimming pool to maintain our health. If we stay fit, our mind will also stay fit. We hope that the government will fulfil our demands”.

“If the MLAs do more physical activities, their bodies will be fit for what they were elected for,” Ajmal added. He is the son of party chief and Lok Sabha member Maulana Badruddin Ajmal.

The two MLAs also urged the speaker to conduct an enquiry on why the old gym had remained closed for so long.
