Two Cotton University students injured in poll-related violence

Guwahati, October 6, 2018:

Two students of the prestigious Cotton University in Guwahati were attacked by the miscreants on the eve of students’ union elections at the varsity on Saturday.

The duo was attacked at Japorigog on Friday night.

Following the attack, Trinayan Baruah and Nabajit Dutta, who is contesting in the post of general secretary, were rushed to the Nemcare Hospital. They lodged a complaint with the Dispur Police Station in connection with the assault.

Talking to InsideNe, a student, supporting the National Students Union of India (NSUI), claimed that the attack was not related to the election saying it took place outside the campus. He said the incident was the result of a personal feud.

Meanwhile, when reports last came in, the process of voting for the election had started. Various students’ organisations have fielded candidates.
