Guwahati, September 13, 2019:

After BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary asked United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) to merge with the Bodo People’s Front (BPF), UPPL chief UG Brahma has denied merging with it.

Speaking on the issue, UG Brahma said, “There is no question of the UPPL merging with the BPF.”

He said that if Hargrama Mohilary wants the parties in BTAD to merge and be united, then he should first set an example by dissolving the BPF first.

Brahma however, admitted that there was a discussion between the BPF and UPPL but both the parties did not have any discussion relating to the seat-sharing ratio as it is being claimed in the media.

It may be mentioned that Hagrama Mohilary earlier said that the BPF has proposed the merger of parties for the greater benefit of BTAD and discussions are being held with UG Bragma-led UPPL party.

He said, "We want that there should be just one party in the BTAD and for this, we have asked everyone to be united. We can always discuss seat-sharing with the parties after the merger."

“However, they have said that the merger of the parties at this point in time is not possible”, he said. “I have even promised the post of Rajya Sabha MP to UG Brahma. What more can we give?”

In the last election, the Hargrama-led BPF party secured a majority by winning twenty of the forty seats. This time, however, Hagrama will be challenged by MP Naba Kr. Sarania, who has said that he will form a party. Moreover, the Lok Sabha MP has claimed that his party will win as many as 35 seats.

It may be mentioned here that the Bodoland Territorial Council is Headed by Hagrama Mahilary as the Chief Executive Member and Kampa Borgoyari as Deputy Chief Executive Member.
