GUWAHATI: An FIR has been filed against 'Raijor Dal' leader Kamal Medhi for his comments against the Brahmin community of Assam. The FIR has been filed at the Latashil police station in Guwahati by Kalyan Sarma, the head priest of the Ugratara Devalaya.
Terming Medhi as a "traitor of his community" in his FIR, Ugratara priest Sarma said that his comments have hurt the sentiments of the Brahmin community and strict action must be taken against him.
Talking to Inside Northeast, Kabindra Sarma, the Head Priest of the Kamakhya Devalaya, said that Kamal Medhi has spoken like a "true traitor to his own kind."
"I have brought the insults to the attention of the Brahmin community at large and are contemplating taking legal action as well," he told Inside Northeast.
Medhi had earlier said that Brahmins helped the Mughals to invade Assam. "The Brahmins on the Kamakhya hill helped built cannons to help the Mughals invade Assam," Medhi had said.

Following the backlash, Medhi said that his words were taken out of context by some media outlets. "I never tried to insult the Brahmins. It was never my intention to hurt sentiments."
Medhi said that he was simply trying to explain that not all Muslims are "villainous", as stated by some leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). "Similarly, Kalyan Sarma, the head priest of the Ugratara Devalaya, has filed an FIR against 'Raijor Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma constantly insults the Muslims by terming them as Mughal.
Muslim are not necessarily betrayers. Taking an anecdote from history, I said that some Brahmins spied for the Mughals during the invasion. That was taken out of context by some sections of the media."
Turning down heavily on Minister Biswa Sarma, Medhi said, "He (Biswa Sarma) is trying to mislead the people and therefore, the question of civilization has arisen. It is a blatant attempt to push their agenda."
The 'Raijor Dal' leader also said that the BJP is likely to soon sell off iconic monuments to private players in order to enrich itself. "Soon, the monuments like the Rang Ghar and the Kareng Ghar too shall be leased out."
Medhi, who is the Vice President of the Raijor Dal, has expressed that he wants to contest the polls against Himanta Biswa Sarma in the latter's Jalukbari Constituency.
