Merely hours after Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged United Liberation Front of Asom Independent (or ULFA-I) Commander-in-Chief Paresh Baruah to return to his homeland for 'peace', it has been reported that the militant leader, currently in exile

At the end of the 41-year-long struggle for a sovereign Assam, the ULFA leader is reportedly headed to his homeland for peace parlays with the Government.

Based on Outlook reports, the dreaded militant leader is headed back home around Bhogali Bihu, the festival celebrated with zeal and zest by the indigenous Assamese people.

According to reports, Rebati Phukan, who has been missing since April, 2018, will be the mediator between the two sides. According to reports, a peace pact will be signed between the ULFA and the GoI "very soon".

Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, during a press meet, had called forth the non-talks faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and its Commander-in-Chief Paresh Baruah to join peace parlays with the GoI.

The Minister, addressing the media here, said, “Around Bohag Bihu, the Government is getting ready to relay rich news to the people of Assam. Eagerly, we await the coming of the recommendation of the high-powered committee of the Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. Moreover, Home Minister Amit Shah has also clarified that the recommendations will be pondered upon with positivity by the Centre. Now, I call upon ULFA Chief Paresh Baruah to join the peace talks after the signing of the Bodo Accord, so that peace can prevail in Assam”
