Just a day earlier, ULFA-I in a press communiqué stated that this year there will be no 'bandh' called by the organisation on Independence Day and citing the COVID-19 outbreak it'll extend its unilateral ceasefire for 3 more months. During this period ULFA-I will not take arms and haul their expeditions.

The outfit seeks independence of Assam with arms struggles and has been opposing the celebration of India's Independence Day. In the year 1990, the Indian Government put a ban on the organisation citing it a terrorist outfit.
