ULFA-I Cadre Apprehendeded in Tinsukia

Guwahati, August 10, 2019:

Based on specific input from sources regarding the presence of active United Liberation Front of Asom- Independent (ULFA-I) cadre in general area of Mangoan Tekri, Tinsukia, Assam, a joint operation was launched by Army and Assam Police.

During the operation, the security forces successfully nabbed two active cadres of ULFA- I along with two live Chinese made hand grenades.

The apprehended ULFA- I cadre have been identified as self- styled Corporal Polo Asom alias Rohit Kuli, active since 2011 and self- styled Pvt Ridip Asom alias Pranab Jyok Baruah, active since 2019.

The nabbed insurgents along with recovered grenades have been handed over to the police for further investigations.

The operation was part of the heightened levels of security ahead of Independence Day to counter the insurgent groups from disrupting peace in Upper Assam.

It is to be mentioned that on August 7, Dibrugarh police has arrested four ULFA linkmen from different places. The apprehended linkmen have been identified as Chayanika Kaman, who was working as a lecturer in Golaghat, Kabita Kaman is a student from Dibrugarh, Kanak Pegu working as an ICU technician in a private nursing home of Dibrugarh and Debajyoti Dowarah from Sasoni, Naharkatia.
