One suspected anti-talks United Liberation Front of Asom cadre (ULFA-I) was arrested today for reportedly planting two improvised explosives in Guwahati ahead of Prime Minister Modi's visit to Assam to celebrate the signing of the tripartite 'peace Accord'.
Guwahati Police Commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta informed that the two IEDs were found in the busy Paltan bazar and Panbazar areas of the city late on Wednesday night. Talking to Inside Northeast, the Commissioner informed that a cadre belonging to the proscribed outfit, suspected to be involved in the planting of explosives, has been arrested from Tinsukia.
"The bomb squad took the IEDs away from the populous location and they were safely detonated safely. We suspect it is the handiwork of ULFA(I)," he added.
Notably, the recoveries of the IEDs were made based on statements by an arrested ULFA cadre, Raktim Gogoi, who was earlier arrested in Tinsukia. He has been remanded in five-day police custody, and shall be interrogated further, reports said.
