KOHIMA: An hardcore cadre of the proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), surrendered before the security forces in Mon district of Nagaland along the Indo-Myanmar Border.

The ULFA (I) cadre had reportedly fled from the banned outfit's camp in Myanmar and crossed over to India with an intention to surrender.

The security forces opined that the cadre's surrender would encourage other underground militants to return to the mainstream.

The surrendered militant said before the security forces that the third abducted ONGC employee, Ritul Saikia, is still in the custody of the ULFA (I).

While describing the life of a militant in jungles as very difficult, he appealed to all those who are still in jungle, to shun violence and come back to the mainstream.
