ULFA (I) leader Drishti Rajkhowa surrenders to army; given safe passage from Bangladesh

GUWAHATI: Dreaded United Liberation Front of Axom (Independent) insurgent Drishti Rajkhowa is now in the custody of the Indian armed forces, officials said.

Rajkhowa's wife, it has been reported, is suffering to cancer. She is currently undergoing treatment in Guwahati, Assam.

According to reports, Rajkhowa was in contact with a military officer for many years. The officer had been trying to get the militant leader to surrender. Today, he was given safe passage from Bangladesh, where he was holed up.

Officials have said that the ULFA leader surrendered along with 4 of his bodyguards and handed over an AK 81 rifle and two pistols. He was picked up by military intelligence and provided security by the Rangia-based 21 Division.
