Guwahati, April 20, 2019:

The setbacks keep on coming for the United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I) after the Myanmar army's blitzkreig against the rebel outfit in the last few months.

A 'Lieutenant' with the outfit, Udgiron Asom, who was operating on Myanmar soil, has given up arms and surrendered to authorities in Arunachal Pradesh. The dreaded militant surrendered to authorities at Laju in Arunachal Pradesh on 18 April. He was subsequently handed over to Assam police on 19 April.

Udgiron Asom was earlier appointed as Staff Officer under ULFA(I) Major General Jivan Moran with the outfit. Udgiron hails from Nalbari district of Assam.

It may be mentioned that the ULFA (I) cadres have been sent running helter-skelter after the Tatmadaw (Myanmar Army) started a crackdown on several militant groups belonging to the North-Eastern region of India after renewed understanding with the Indian armed forces.
