Guwahati, February 2, 2020:

Assam Congress Chief Ripun Bora has termed Budget 2020, which was announced on Saturday, as a “disappointing” budget for the ordinary people and said that it intends to benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Bora, while addressing a press conference in Guwahati, said, “This year’s budget is for the development of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), along with Adani, Ambani and corporates. They will be benefitted from the budget and there not Sabka Saath Sabka Vikaas.”

He continued, “This Budget has been termed as the longest budget, yet it has failed to carry anything for the ordinary people. It carried no good news for the public.”

Criticizing the current government, the Congress chief, “Corporate tax was slashed, benefitting the corporates and rich businessmen. Now they are trying to sell 900 trains to private sector.”

Commenting on the government’s smart cities plan, he said that although 100 cities were selected as smart cities, this budget considered only five of them as smart cities.

“India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is lower than that of Bangladesh. This is the lowest in the past 11 years. From 12% GDP, it has come down to 10%. This is an aimless budget. Since 2014, they have failed to double the production of Farmers. How is it possible now? So many farmers have committed suicide. Why don’t they say anything on this matter?” the chief added.
