Upamanyu Hazarika lodges FIR against senior BJP leader

Guwahati, April 10, 2019:
Senior advocate and Independent candidate from Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency, Upamanyu Hazarika on Wednesday lodged an FIR against Convenor of Law and Legal Affairs Department of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Benudhar Nath for allegedly providing false information.
In the FIR copy, it is stated, “The entire entry for campaigning in the office was recorded on video, live on Facebook, and by various TV channels who accompanied me on my walking campaign from Noonmati to Bharalumukh. The video footage explicitly shows that the BJP office was empty with no publicity material around. This information is based on falsehood, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury or annoyance of any person.”
He said that the complainant who had lodged an FIR on a false accusation against him had misled the state machinery and committed an offense under Section 380. He further added that the culprits should be booked under Section 211 and 182 of IPC for providing false information and thereby instigating a false case.
