Militant outfit United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA) which currently under a ceasefire agreement with the government has asked to ban all activities of illegal mining and selling of natural resources in Karbi Anglong.
Joint secretary of the organisation, Young Tungjang in a press statement said that all the illegal mining and selling of natural resources such as sand, stones, coal, timber etc of Karbi Anglong should be banned.
He further appealed the government to take steps so that the people of Karbi Anglong can see an all-round development.
He added, “We are also worried over rising cases of smuggling of timber, stones, sand, coal and other forest products in the district. We are incurring a huge revenue loss, and, therefore, the state government should take a prompt action in this regard.”
