UPPL chief Promod Boro releases election manifesto; promises to implement BTR treaty

KOKRAJHAR: United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) supremo Promod Boro today releasing the 'Vision Document' ahead of elections, stated that the party is committed to its promises under the clauses of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) treaty within the next 5 years.

"After winning the election, we will focus on bringing about improvements in agriculture, education, weaving and handloom, youth empowerment, human resource development, health and cleanliness, skill development, and employment," UPPL chief Promod Boro said after releasing the vision document.

In the document, the UPPL listed out how it can usher in transformative policies in each of these areas to ensure the overall development in the region.

In its manifesto, the party, which has allied with the BJP, has promised to implement all the clauses of the BTR Accord.

The party also promised to provide surrendered NDFB militants with jobs in the military and para-military forces, as per the provisions of the Accord.

The UPPL party in its document also promised to make a proper policy for revenue allocation in the region. The party also promised to hold elections in 2022 to replace the existing VCDCs with village panchayats.

It also promised to properly implement all the central and state government policies, such as the PMAY. It also stated "forming a corruption-free government" as one of its key objectives.

The party also promised to uphold "democracy" and to preserve the democratic rights of the people.

Of the 104 seats, the BJP will field its candidates in 70 constituencies. The AGP and UPPL will contest in 26 and 8 constituencies respectively.

A total of 47 constituencies are going to polls in Phase-I Assam Assembly Election. Of the 47 constituencies, 81,09,815 electors will decide the fate of 267 candidates.

The campaigning for the Phase-I poll will conclude today and voting will take place on March 27.

The counting of votes for the 126-member Assam assembly will take place on May 2.
