DIPHU: At a time when Assam is tightening the noose on traffic violators across the state, police personnel who are supposed to be upholding the Law have been seen riding on a bike without helmets.

The policemen riding on a scooter without helmets were spotted by a citizen in Diphu, Karbi Anglong who while passing the duo on a car asked why they were not wearing helmets. To this, the rider of the two-wheeler jokingly said that they do not require helmets.

However, social media does not forgive and forget easily. Soon, a short snippet of the conversation was uploaded online and took little time to go viral.

Eventually, it made its way to Twitter, where it caught the attention of Additional DGP (Law & Order) G P Singh who tagged the Karbi Anglong police’s official handle in the post.

The Karbi Anglong police says it is looking into the affair. It does not seem like they will much trouble tracking down the accused, for they were neither wearing helmets nor sporting masks.

This development comes days after e Guwahati traffic police has decided to stringently enforce wearing of helmets by pillion riders of two-wheelers amid a skyrocketing number of traffic mishaps.
