While speaking at a panel discussion at the India Today Conclave 2019 in New Delhi on Friday, Himanta Biswa Sarma spoke about the ‘Hindu-Muslim’ conflict in the nation. The senior Assam BJP leader shared the stage with Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi.
While discussing the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Biswa Sarma defended the BJP’s will to implement the Bill by saying: “We are just giving citizenship to Hindus. But we have given [a] country to Muslims. We have given Pakistan to Muslims.”
Reiterating his support for the Bill, Biswa Sarma said that “this (the Bill) was a historic commitment to the religious minorities of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.” Upon being asked by Owaisi whether he wants to divide the people of Assam, Biswa Sarma alleged that Owaisi is trying to turn Assam into another Kashmir.
