Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti president Akhil Gogoi on Saturday said that the centre would not be allowed to pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 at any cost.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, the peasant leader said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has already ordered seven states, Chattiisgarh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharastra, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi to grant citizenship to the Hindu Bangladeshis by December 22.
Gogoi added that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has planned to impose the CAB directly or through an ordinance.
He reiterated that if the bill gets amended, Assam will lose it’s language, land, culture and origin.
Gogoi asserted that he won’t allow Assam turn into another Tripura or Kashmir. He said that they would launch a fierce agitation against the BJP from November 5.
Gogoi claimed that the RSS has been imparting arms training to the youths living in the char areas of Assam.
Akhil Gogoi added that on November 3, a meeting has been arranged where president and general secretaries of all the organizations of Assam will participate to work out strategies to stop the government from passing the bill.
On November 4, a meeting has been arranged with all the intellectuals, editors and journalists from the media to gather ideas to overcome the issue, said Gogoi.
On the other hand, Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) general secretary, Palash Changmai lamented that the BJP will amend the CAB in the winter session of parliament.
Changmai said that the BJP and RSS have been spreading wrong messages that the CAB will cause no harm to the indigenous people of Assam. He said that they will start distributing 30 lakh public letters carrying the information about what the Citizenship (Amendent) Bill, 2016 really is.
