In a move that is generally being lauded, the Bodoland People’s Front party headed by BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary has nominated Social Welfare Minister Pramila Rani Brahma as the representative from the party who will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Kokrajhar Constituency, thereby breaking the glass ceiling for female politicians in the region.
The Minister expressed her pleasure at the nomination, while speaking exclusively to IndsideNE. “I am happy. We tend to underestimate ourselves, thinking we are backward. But, if we truly wish to work, male or female makes no difference. I have been given opportunities by Hagrama Mohilary, Upendranath Brahma, and I have lived up to their expectations.”
Brahma also thanked Hagrama for showing faith in a woman. “I thank Hagrama for showing his respect towards women, and I will not let him down.”
Pramila Rani Brahma also stated that the BPF party is facing challenges in the region as rival parties have already been campaigning for long and thus, the party has a lot of ground to cover. But she expressed confidence that the BPF party will walk away with the prize of the Lok Sabha throne after all is said and done.
