Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi promised to quit politics if Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wins 100 seats in the 2021 state assembly polls. He also expressed confidence that Congress would form the next government in Assam saying the party will win more than 80 seats. The octogenarian also said that he will quit politics if the Congress-AIUDF and other parties alliance wins less than 35 seats.

The veteran politician made it clear that though he will contest assembly elections in 2021, he is not going to be the chief ministerial candidate of the Congress-AIUDF alliance. He also dismissed any possibility of his Member of Parliament son Gaurav Gogoi becoming the CM  aspirant in 2021 assembly polls.
