Woman trampled to death by wild elephant in Assam's Golaghat

GOLAGHAT: A woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Golaghat district of Assam on Saturday.

The incident took place in the wee hours at around 6:00 am at Bahbariline under Bokial Beat of Golaghat range.

The victim has been identified as Jyoti Tanti (21), daughter of Upen Tanti of Bahbariline of Morongi tea estate under Bokial Beat of Golaghat Range.

According to reports, the incident took place when Tanti went out to take bath in Dhansiri river.

The wild elephant attacked her and she died on the spot.

Later police and forest personnel reached the spot and recovered her body and sent the body to SKK Civil Hospital, Golaghat for post mortem.

Furthermore, the Assistant Conservator of Forest, I/c Golaghat Range has been asked to collect documents of the deceased to start the process for sanction of ex-gratia.
