Youth Congress activists gherao NEEPCO office

Hundreds of Youth Congress activists gheraoed the office of North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO) here on Wednesday.

The Youth Congress criticised NEEPCO for causing devastation in Lakhimpur and Golaghat districts by releasing excess waters from its dams in Arunachal Pradesh Nagaland without any prior warning and demanded strict action against the officials involved.

Many allege that floods were caused in Lakhimpur district by Ranganadi river following release of excess waters of the river by NEEPCO from its reservoir in Arunachal Pradesh, while Golaghat witnessed similar devastation following release of excess waters by the Central PSU from its dam over river Doyang in Nagaland’s Wokha.
