Guwahati, January 5, 2019:

Beloved musician Zubeen Garg slammed Assam tourism department’s ‘Awesome Assam’ campaign and used the word “ghenta” to describe the advertisements that they have produced to promote tourism in the state. Zubeen also questioned why the campaign revolves around Chopra, who is not from the state.

“From where has Priyanka Chopra entered? She is not a rhino, nor a tiger, neither a deer. She is not from here. I am not upset that she has been chosen, but does ‘Awesome Assam’ mean only Priyanka Chopra? I am not asking to be chosen in her place, let them keep Priyanka Chopra, but they should make good quality content,” said the popular singer.

Talking about his affection for the one-horned rhino, Assam’s unofficial state mascot, Zubeen said: “I am the first person in Assam who has adopted a rhino. Priyanka Chopra has not done that. No minister has done that. I want tourism and culture to be handed over to us.”

Further slamming the ‘Awesome Assam’ campaign and its focus on the Bollywood megastar, Zubeen lamented: “Its funny, its like a joke. I say these things when I am pissed off. Everybody knows that. Let her be, but she should not be the focus. Assam’s rhinos, tigers, dhanesh birds, gibbons etc must also be shown. Gibbons eat oranges from people’s hands, but Priyanka Chopra doesn’t know that and neither do those people who have made the campaign”.
