All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal has criticised the Assam Chief Minister's statements on 'Land Jihad' and 'Love Jihad' and the State Government's plan to introduce two new bills.
Ajmal stated that everyone has a right to buy land in Assam and questioned the necessity of the proposed laws.
He claimed that the laws are intended to appease Hindu voters and emphasised that the majority of Hindus in India are secular. Ajmal advised the Assam CM to refrain from making divisive statements.
"...Everyone has a right on the land in Assam. Anyone from India can buy land here. This is not Kashmir...What law will they bring? It is only to make Hindu brothers happy...97%-98% of Hindus in the country are secular, they are not communal. As a big brother, I advise him (Assam CM) to stop making such statements...What is 'Love Jihad'? In the Indian film industry, the wives of many big film stars personalities are Hindu. What will you do? You can't catch them but you will trouble the poor people...Aap par gerua rang ka asar chadh gaya hai.." said the AIUDF chief.

He also questioned the concept of 'Love Jihad', citing examples from the Indian film industry where many prominent personalities have interfaith marriages.
Ajmal also accused the CM of being influenced by communal ideologies.
On the Assam Government's decision to repeal the Assam Muslim Marriages Divorces Registration Act, Rules 1935, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal says, "...Go to the market and you will find out how upset people are with you. You should talk about real issues. This is democracy, not the time of Hitler. You should respect democracy. You are targeting a community... the Hindu brothers also understand this. What is your role in the development of Assam? All the work which is being done is through money given by the World Bank..."
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that the state government will soon introduce a new law mandating life imprisonment for those convicted of 'love jihad'. Sarma's statement came during a BJP state executive meeting, aligning Assam's legal stance with recent proposals from Uttar Pradesh.
In his speech, Sarma said that individuals found guilty of engaging in 'love jihad'—defined as deceitful romantic relationships where an individual's religion or identity is concealed—will face severe legal consequences. The proposed legislation aims to address and penalize cases where deceit is involved in romantic relationships, targeting those who allegedly exploit interfaith relationships for ulterior motives.
