The persistent human-elephant conflict across various regions of Assam has taken a tragic toll once again, claiming the life of a young child.
Early this morning, a 10-year-old boy, identified as Azizul Haque from Longjap Padumoni in Kachuwa under the Kampur Forest Office of Nagaon district, was fatally attacked by a wild elephant. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning, underscoring the increasing intensity of such conflicts across Assam.
According to local reports, young Azizul was on his way to the fields when he unexpectedly encountered the elephant, which delivered a fatal blow. Villagers were left heartbroken as news of the tragedy spread, prompting concerns over the rising frequency of elephant encounters in inhabited areas. Many residents of the Kachuwa area have faced similar risks in recent months, raising questions about the effectiveness of ongoing mitigation measures aimed at managing human-elephant interactions.
Forest Department personnel promptly arrived at the scene following the incident, conducting assessments and speaking with the grieving family. While authorities have been working on various strategies to address this growing crisis, today’s tragedy highlights the urgent need for enhanced solutions to prevent further loss of life amid escalating conflicts between local communities and wildlife.
