A passenger bus standing stationary suddenly burst into flames at a depot in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Thursday, June 1.
Sources stated that the bus bearing registration number ‘AS12 BC 9447’ completely gutted in the fire, the cause which is yet to be ascertained. Fortunately, no reports of injuries were reported.
The incident comes amid protests against the transport agency by a number of its former employees who were laid off from their jobs.
The ASTC announced on Tuesday that it will fire up to 771 employees who were recruited illegally.
During the time that Khagendra Nath Chetia served as Managing Director, it is alleged that a total of 2,274 employees were hired without following proper procedures. This is stated in an official notice.
On Wednesday afternoon, a heated argument broke out at its Paltanbazar, Guwahati, office following the announcement of the decision.
