In what can be called as a major success for Barpeta Medical College, a patient from the neighbouring country got a new lease of life after she was successfully operated for a neck trouble at the medical college.

The leading government medical college and hospital has been able to attract patients from outside the country apart from outside the state.

With the setting up of a new precedent the hospital has been able to cure a patient from the neighbouring country with better medical care.

A complex surgery was performed on a Bangladeshi woman suffering from cancer in the parotid gland. 

Under the leadership of Dr Jyotirmoy Phukan, head of ear-nose-throat department of Barpeta Medical College Hospital, the patient from Bangladesh was given advanced surgery for cancer.

Junior doctors and medical staff of the hospital assisted Dr Jyotirmoy Phukan in the surgery.

Dr Jyotirmoy Phukan while speaking on the successful surgery stated that the operation successful and only possible because principal Dr Ramen Talukdar and superintendent Dr Parthapratim Baruah were able to lead the hospital in a strong way.

It is to be noted that Dr Jyotirmoy Phukan is the eldest son of renowned poet Nilamani Phukan of Assam who won the Jnanpith. 

The principal and chief superintendent of the medical college Dr Ramen Talukdar expressed satisfaction over the success of the operation.
  
He opined that it was because of better infrastructure and responsible doctors and medical staff that it was possible to conduct such a complex surgery successfully in the hospital.

Meanwhile, the woman patient from Bangladesh expressed her happiness over the surgery being performed at Barpeta Medical College Hospital.
